Protectall Environmental Policy
Protectall is responsible to maintain good environmental practice and operation. We are committed to reducing individual and collective environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral and fundamental part of our operating methods. It is an objective to encourage our business associates to do the same. Not only is this sound commercial sense for all; it is also a matter of delivering on our duty of care towards future generations.

Our policy comprises three sections;

-    What Protectall will do
-    How Protectall will do it
-    How Protectall is doing versus policy objectives

What Protectall will do
  • Wholly support and comply with or exceed the requirements of current environmental legislation and codes of practice.
  • Minimise our waste and reuse / recycle as much of it as possible.
  • Minimise energy and water usage.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles with due regard to environmental issues as far as reasonably practical and encourage use of ‘greener’ means of transport including car sharing as appropriate.
  • As far as possible purchase products and services that do the least damage to the environment and encourage others to do the same.
  • Encourage employees to transfer appropriate environmental practices adopted in the workplace to their home environment.
  • Communicate openly and consult with our stakeholders on environmental issues. Publish our policy and carbon footprint cumulative record as a downloadable item on our website, inviting open comment.
  • Address complaints about any breach of our Environmental Policy promptly and to the satisfaction of all concerned.

How Protectall will do it

  • Minimise our waste and reuse or recycle as much of it as possible.
    Paper and Paper Products
    • Recycled and recyclable paper and paper products, such as office paper,
    • envelopes will be purchased whenever possible
    • Staff are expected to be economical in their use of paper and to use scrap paper for notes
    • Wherever possible waste products will be recycled.
  • Minimise energy and water usage  
    Water
    • The use of water will be kept to a minimum
    • Water limiter device placed in cistern and short/long flush toilet cistern installed
    Energy/Electrical Equipment
    • Energy will be used as efficiently as possible.
    • When purchasing new equipment, energy efficiency will be fully considered
    • Electrical equipment will be turned off when not in use
  • Operate and maintain vehicles with due regard to environmental issues as far as reasonably practical and encourage the use of alternative means of transport and car sharing as appropriate.
    Transport
    • The use of environmentally friendly transport (walking, public transport, bicycles, car pools) by staff will be encouraged for business use and travel.
  • As far as possible purchase products and services that do the least damage to the environment and encourage others to do the same.
    Cleaning Materials
    • Environmentally friendly cleaning materials will be used whenever possible
    Office Consumables
    • Office consumables will be stored centrally and an inventory will be maintained to ensure efficient stock control
    • Environmentally friendly products e.g. refillable pens, will be used where practical
    • Printers will be set to economic settings by default and ink cartridges refilled or recycled.
  • Encourage employees to transfer appropriate environmental practices adopted in the workplace to their home environment
    • Environmental considerations will be a standing agenda item at staff meetings.
  • Communicate openly and consult with our stakeholders on environmental issues
    • Downloadable policy copy (including Protectall annual carbon footprint calculations) on
    • website with reader comments invited
    • Annual figures reported to Business In The Community (BITC) - http://www.bitc.org.uk (effective 2009)
  • Address complaints about any breach of our Environmental Policy promptly and to the satisfaction of all concerned.
    • Environmental action status will be a standing agenda item at staff meetings.
